The top and sides of the tray are made of fine-grained alligator leather that matches the scale of the product, while the bottom is made of box calf leather with a different texture. Chrome tanning gives it an elegant and hard appearance.
The tray is hollow as it is made using only adhesive and no thread is used.
The adhesive is made in Italy and is tasteless, odorless, and harmless to humans, so it is safe even if children or pets accidentally ingest it.
The edge (cut surface) is treated by soaking it in ink heated to a high temperature, which makes it blend in with the leather, making it a French-style technique that makes it less likely to crack or peel even after years of use.
